Mitochondrial DNA Test (mtDNA)
Mitochondrial DNA testing
(mtDNA testing) is done to determine whether two or more people (male or female) share the same maternal line. MtDNA, an abbreviation for Mitochondrial DNA. This type of DNA is passed from females to their male and female offspring but cannot be passed by males to their children.
The test uses mtDNA to map what is known as the X-SV profile. If two siblings share the same X-SV profile, it is likely that they share the same maternal lineage. mtDNA is a reliable DNA test and has the benefit of undergoing little mutation from generation to generation. The mtDNA test will tell you whether two or more people share the same maternal line; it cannot, however, pinpoint the exact relationship between the people tested.
The test is offered starting at £299
. Results will be ready in 14-16
working days. You may proceed by clicking one of the options below or keep reading about our various types of relationship DNA tests
