Aunt-Uncle DNA Test
An avuncular DNA test involves testing the aunts and/or uncles with their nieces and/or nephews. In cases where the father is not available for testing, testing his relatives can tell you whether the child, whose paternity is in question, is the biological child of the alleged, untested father. The lab cannot perform this test if the aunt / uncle is NOT a full sibling to the alleged father in question.
We strongly suggest including the sample of a known parent to provide stronger results.
An avuncular test result shows a probability of relationship expressed as a percentage. This percentage will vary depending on the common genetic material shared between them.
If the alleged father is available for the test, we recommend doing a paternity test.
Once we begin analysing your samples, our genetic analysts will work out the avuncular indexes and determine whether there is a biological relationship between the tested parties. If the result indicates the tested parties are biological relatives, their relationship to the untested person can be confirmed.
In an avuncular test, as with most relationship DNA tests, we strongly suggest including the sample of a known parent, to provide stronger results
