An avuncular DNA test usually involves testing the aunts, uncles or other relatives of a child in order to establish paternity. The relatives tested must all be from the child’s alleged father’s family and not the mother’s. In cases where the father is not available for testing, testing his relatives will tell you whether a child is the biological child of the alleged father or not. The test will provide different inclusion or exclusion rates for the relatives than would a standard paternity DNA test.
Our analysts will work out the avuncular indexes and determine whether there is a biological relationship between the tested parties. If there is a relationship, they can conclude that they are biological relatives and the alleged father (who has not been tested) is probably the child’s biological father.
In an avuncular test, as with most Relationship DNA Tests, we will often recommend sending in the mother’s samples to so as to be able to provide a more conclusive result and be able to trace genetic inheritance patterns more easily.
