16 Genetic Loci: When DNA samples are tested, it is only specific ‘places’ on the DNA molecule that are tested; these ‘places’ are referred to as loci. Accredited laboratories have to test 16 of these genetic loci as this number has been found to be the optimal number for conclusive DNA testing. Some laboratories might test less to save on time and costs but this means having results which are less accurate.

Our DNA paternity test for example, with the 16 genetic loci we test, will show you a percentage inclusion for paternity of 99.999+% and will exclude an alleged father by 100% if he is not the father of the tested child. The 99.999+% inclusion rate is cited in cases where the mother’s samples are included.
